Guthart, Heinrich 1 2 3

Birth Name Guthart, Heinrich
Gender male
Age at Death 59 years, 2 months, 8 days

Narrative

Arrived in America from Alsace region aboard the "Samuel" on 30 Aug 1737. Later in 1737, Heinrich obtained a Land Warrent and received 150 acres from Thomas and William Penn. This land was sold in 1741. He purchased a lot in what is now Reading, PA in 1757. He and other Germans petitioned to name the area after 'Elsas', their place of origin, and thus, Alsace Township in Berks County, PA was formed.

Tradition has it that three brothers came to this country together, but records only show Heinrich, his wife Susannah, and their son Freiderich (then aged 12 years) being aboard the "Samuel". When Susannah died, she only named Friederich and her three daughters as heirs, so other sons either died before their mother, or for some reason she did not remember them in her will. However, Letters of Administration were granted to her son, "Frederick Goodheart, eldest son", implying there were other sons, and I've listed the ones I've heard of but have no proof of (William, Abraham, Jacob, Peter & Martin.)
