Narrative

From https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/185106690/solomon-grooms:

Solomon Grooms was born in 1754. The first records for him are in the 1780s in Morgan Twsp, Washington County, PA. This part of SW PA was disputed territory with Virginia (this may account for later generation biographies that say he or his brother William were from Virginia). Solomon and family arrive in Bourbon Co, Kentucky approx 1794. His wife was Sarah. It is possibly her maiden name was Parker and she was a sister to his brother William's wife.

Solomon and Sarah had possibly nine children of which seven lived to be adults or minors and are named in his will. They are: Mary (1775), Hannah Francis (1782), William (1784), Richard (1786), Joseph (1795), Sarah (1798) and Francis (1800).

It has been long believed that a William Grooms from the same Pennsylvania documents and later in Bourbon and Clark Counties Ky with Solomon was his brother. This linkage has been confirmed by DNA. Children of both Solomon and William will emigrate to Missouri and live near each other making successive Groom/s research in Missouri complicated!

It is this researcher's belief that William and Solomon are first generation emigrates from Briton borderlands who came to America in the early 1770s and settled in the VA/PA back country. They possibly received land bounties from militia service in the Rev War. There is a Solomon listed in 1782 PA Militia. The best surviving record for Solomon is his will executed in Clark Co, KY 18 Feb 1810. Other than this, where he lived and his burial is unknown.
