Age at Death 76 years, 3 months, 22 days

Narrative

Jacob and Elizabeth first settled near Lititz, Lancaster co Pennsylvania. Uhrich tells us that Jacob got the "western fever" around 1827 and went by horseback to Stark co Ohio where he bought a 240 acre farm for $2700. He returned to Pennsylvania and sent his brother Charles and wife out to mind the farm.
In 1829, Jacob and family moved from Pennsylvania to Stark co. Ohio, accompanied by three of Jacob's married sisters - Mary, Margaret and Catherine and their families, as well as his unmarried sister Fanny and his mother Julianna Muhleisen Schlott. Their father Fredrick remained behind to live with brother Henry in Warwick twp. Jacob farmed on the homestead in Ohio for the balance of his life, apparently living with son Abraham in his last years.

Barbara Palmer tells us Elizabeth Longanecker was highly educated, and came from money. She was orphaned. Her inheritance was the source of the funds for the farm in Ohio. She later donated the land for Zion church and cemetery and for the local schoolhouse.
