Jacob Wolf was a blacksmith by trade.

He came to America in the early-mid 1840's and married Gertrude Weiss on 1 April 1845 in St. Louis Catholic Church in Buffalo, NY.

They had 4 children: Louisa Gertrude, Louis Philip, Ida, and Julia Anna.

Jacob was buried from St. Louis Catholic Church.

Narrative

Ship manifest for Florida, arriving in NY city on 30 Sept 1843 gives Jacob's age as 34, which is off a bit from the baptismal date, but he is listed as a blacksmith, he does comes from Schneeberg, his destination is Buffalo (sic)

1869 City Directory lists place of business (grocer, 407 Batavia) and house as same.

When trying to find link between Jacob and Francis M.: Buffalo City Clerk office's death certificate for Jacob does not list his parents' names; marriage record at St. Louis Church did not list parents either. Francis M. Wolf is godparent to Jacob's son, Louis Philip. Jacob is used as reference when Francis M. applies for citizenship. Jacob is a witness to Francis M.'s marriage to Eva Barbara Schmidt. Jacob and Gertrude are godparents to Frank's and Eva's daughter, Mary Magd. Wolf. Jacob sells property to Francis M.

A lead from a book of emigrants shows a Jacob Wulf coming from Schneeberg. In January 2012, research by Eva Fintelmann in Germany shows the parish Schneeberg, diocesan Archive Wuerzburg has entries for Michael Wolff and Christina Link that shows Philip Jacob as brother to Francis Mathias. Success! And brother John J. who went to Wayland, NY is there too.
