Apparently, it seems (but is a mystery). The Voits changed their name from Schlegel to Voit then to Foit.

I had found two naturalization's: (both unconfirmed at this point). One might be for his father (Naturalized in Buffalo, NY on August 30th 1850 at the age of 76 ---even though at that yr, his father would of been 72). The other which might be for George Voit being Naturalized on Sept 16, 1850 at the age of 31.

1880 Census: George is a 60, a farmer, born Bavaria (Mother & Father is born there also). Elizabeth is 59.
Two children are at home: Elizabeth who is 24 and Anna who is 22.

With great help from a distant relation (N.K.), she found the following.:
New York Passenger Lists 1820-1957
Georg Schlegel, 68 bricklayer,
Margaret Schlegel, 68 female,
George Voit Schlegel, 27
Elizabeth Voit Schlegel 26,
Frederic Schlegel age 2,
Barbara Sitzmann age 52.

Now, we knew of all these people, just didn't know of the Schlegel name. And apparently at one time some of the Voits turned the name in Foits.

George Voit (Schlegel)'s parents: Georg Schlegel born 1778 Germany, I have down as dying in New York. I do not know if that means New York City, or he could be buried in the same cemetery as his son in New York State.
His Mother: Margaret was born in 1781, Germany and I also have down died in New York.

Next mystery: Place of birth. I have written down it was Wiesenthau, Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany. I am not familiar with the German villages, etc. On findagrave, I could only pick Bavaria, Germany.

Regardless of the mystery, I am sure glad they all traveled together and came over. This way we were able to fit most of the pieces together.

Children of George & Elizabetha are:
Fred Foit,
unknown Voit who was born and died abt 11/1846 on the way to America,
Karl (Charles) Foit,
Anna Maria (Mary) Foit,
Elizabeth Foit,
Anna Foit.
