VanLandingham, Peter Sr. 1 2

Birth Name VanLandingham, Peter Sr.
Gender male
Age at Death 67 years, 9 months, 1 day

Narrative

Peter is mentioned as a Trustee of Poplar Springs Church located in Wilkinson County, Georgia. The church
was evidently an outgrowth of the Old Camp Meeting ground not far from its site. In 1828 Fulton Kemp executed
a deed to ten acres of land, where the church now stands, to Jesse Peacock, Wiley Miller, Peter Vanlandingham,
and Jethro Dean as Trustees of this church (p. 385). An interesting fact is that when Sherman's army passed
through the area, the church was used by some soldiers, and the old minutes of the church disappeared.

March 17, 1998 from Bill Ramsaur to Decatur County Query page:

Peter and Martha moved to Decatur Co., Georgia in 1827 with 4 other sons and a daughter. I understand that
Peter is "buried on his home place near Calvary." Where is the specific location of Peter's home place, and is
there any current evidence of his burial place? Martha died in 1860 and I understand that she is buried in the Old
Chester Cemetery, near Reno in Grady Co., Georgia. Does she have a tombstone, and what directions can be
supplied to reach the cemetery? Four of Peter's sons, Benjamin, Peter, Jr., Edward and Samuel, and his daughter,
Ann, went with him to Decatur Co., Georgia. Does anyone have the Decatur Co. 1830 thru 1880 Census listings
for these families. Also, I understand that Samuel Vanlandingham married Elizabeth Johns in 1834. Does
anyone know Elizabeth's parents and other Johns ancestors?
