Narrative

The marriage of William (Wilhelm) Schlott and Catherina Hart is found in the records of the Schwarzwald Reform church of Rev. John Wilhem Boos. In some records the name is Hartung or Hortung.
Well after the death of William, Catherina joined her three grown children and their families in the move to Ohio in 1836. Most of the family, perhaps all, settled in or near Bryan, Ohio, in Williams co. near Toledo. Daughter Leah and family went on to Iowa in 1852.
Leah's granddaughter, Esther Welch, is the source of a family story that Catherina was spirited away from her parents at a very early age, taken while picking apples in her front yard. She was supposedly left with a farm family who raised her, and she later married the family's oldest son. The description fits William. The main discrepancy is that all of these events were said to have occurred in Germany. Apparently it happened in the German-speaking settlements in Pennsylvania.
Uhrich says that William had only three children, Levi, William and Leah. Possibly Ester died early and was not known to Uhrich. Uhrich also reports Levi as having only 7 children.
Much of the descendent information was provided by Barbara Palmer. Leah Schlott descendents were supplied by granddaughter Esther Welch.
